Immigrants, slaves of the developed world.

Updated: Feb 21, 2020

Every political season immigration is usually a big issue. In 2016, Then candidate Trump ran on that single issue, remember the wall and how Mexico will pay for it.

Truth is The US, developed and developing countries need immigrants, legal or illegal, to pick up where the local working class left off as they move up to middle class and beyond.

Construction, hospitality, farming etc. are labor intensive industries that rely on immigrants to do their bidding. The Dominican Republic, Brazil, Chile, and North America depend heavily on low skilled immigrants from Haiti and elsewhere to work at those various jobs while their middle class is growing.

Then what's the fuss about immigration? Political pandering. Politicians worldwide love to spread fear, real or fabricated, to get votes at the polls, and immigration is a hot button issue, specifically when talking about jobs and social welfare. Good examples: Brexit, POTUS Donald Tump, the Dominican Republic to name a few. Immigration gets politicians elected.

The need for low skill workers is immense worldwide, which is the main reason for attracting immigrants, legal or otherwise, to those countries mentioned. And those immigrants are part of a low skill, underpaid workforce whose back is making other countries great, rather than their own.

Case in point, Haiti. The country is in total chaos by design. Meanwhile, young and old are fleeing to the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Chile, Dominica, Turk and Caicos, the Bahamas, and the US by any means necessary. The US Embassy in Port Au Prince makes a mint at $160.00 per visa application, and much more with family petitions from the US. Same is true for DR, Brazil, Chile and the others. They charge astronomical fees for their visas.

Now the dirty secret, the government of Haiti and Haitian oligarchs depend on those immigrants to send the bacon home, nearly 4 billion USD in transfer payments to Haiti annually. The government gets a USD 1.50 cut on each transfer, the oligarchs get the lion share because that money is spent on food and other necessities that they sell to the population. The oligarchs migrated to Haiti dirt poor but now control 95% of that country's wealth. Money made in Haiti.

Thus is Haiti's saga. Haitian slaves are needed worldwide for back breaking work and financing Haiti's government and oligarchs. I believe North Korea's regime send North Koreans to work in Russia in order to send most of their earnings to the regime. Well, Haiti is not that much different.

If one wonders why Haiti is so unstable, just follow the money trail, and ask: Who is gaining from the chaos?
