Haiti’s Impediments to Economic Development

Haiti’s problems are obvious, corruption, overpopulation, unemployment, crime, lack of infrastructure and social services to name a few. But ignorance, superstition, and mistrust are the greatest barriers to peace and prosperity in Haiti.

Haitians deep belief in voodoo make them superstitious and distrustful by nature. Add to that ignorance, and you have a population that is difficult to work with, and grow accordingly.

Public and private leaders understand that culture, and use those hangups to manipulate the masses, while they’re enriching themselves at their expense.

As far as they’re concerned, the people are too dumb to realize that they are being exploited by their own. Thus, poverty and disasters are money making opportunities for oligarchs, and government officials.

The exodus to various countries pays well in the form of transfer payments and fees; and disasters bring foreign aids into government, NGOs, and private businesses coffers.

One day the population will wake up, and there will be hell to pay.
